Welcome to the New Moves website!

The Brazilian version of the New Moves program was adapted and tested in public schools in São Paulo, with funding from the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) and Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPQ) and had their results evaluated through a randomized clinical trial model from 2014 to 2015. It was applied to girls from 12 to 14 years of age from schools that were interested in receiving the program.

The components of the program are similar to the original program, and the main adaptations were made in relation to the foods consumed, which differ greatly from the American culture, as well as the types of physical activity modalities, including also activities that could be done at home, on the streets and parks.

The program followed the original model in the way of conducting, being well accepted by the students, and considered differentiated by its dynamic way of working the contents of physical activity, nutrition and social support. It can be used as a model for future interventions in the country.

The experience with the program can be summarized from the reports of the coordinator, health professionals and the students on the New Moves - Brazil page.

Looking for a fun way to help girls learn healthy eating and physical activity habits while improving self-esteem and body image? You are in the right place! New Moves is an evidence-based physical education program designed to promote positive self-image, healthy eating, and physical activity in adolescent girls. All of the materials available on this website were developed for the New Moves research study, which was implemented in Minnesota high schools during the 2007–2008 and 2008–2009 school years.

flowerThe New Moves program was created and evaluated at the University of Minnesota for a research study sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, a division of the National Institute of Health, (Grant R01 DK063107, Principal Investigator Dianne Neumark-Sztainer). An article describing the New Moves program is available here. For more information about the research study, please click here.

We are excited to announce that all of the materials needed to implement New Moves in your school are available on this website! If you are interested in learning more about how to get New Moves started in your school, click here.
